Planeterra provides community tourism enterprises with the network, funding, market connections, and training they need to build sustainable livelihoods through tourism. How We Support Community Tourism

Global Community Tourism Network
A membership network connecting community tourism enterprises with peers, mentorship, learning resources, and collaborative opportunities worldwide.
Global Community Tourism Fund
Grant funding that provides enterprises with equipment, training, and infrastructure investments to strengthen their tourism readiness.
Market Integration
Direct connections to international travel partners like G Adventures and Evaneos, bringing travellers to community experiences through structured integration.
Training & Capacity Building
Tourism readiness support, mentorship, and skill development that prepares enterprises to deliver exceptional visitor experiences.

Global Community Tourism Network (GCTN)

The GCTN is a membership network for community tourism enterprises around the world. Members join to connect with other organizations working in community tourism, access learning resources and mentorship from Planeterra, gain access to market partners and customers, improve their community tourism experiences, and increase community impact from tourism.

The network spans regions including Asia-Pacific, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and the Americas — supporting enterprises led by and benefiting women, rural communities, indigenous communities, and environmental initiatives. GCTN members undergo a screening process and gain access to the full Planeterra support ecosystem.

Global Community Tourism Fund (GCTF)

The Global Community Tourism Fund provides grant funding to community tourism enterprises, helping them invest in the equipment, training, and infrastructure needed to welcome travellers and build sustainable operations. Grant recipients receive targeted financial support tailored to their specific needs and stage of development.

Grants have supported enterprises across multiple regions and sectors — from organic farming cooperatives in Nepal to women's empowerment centres in Croatia and wildlife conservation associations in Greece. Funding amounts are determined based on each enterprise's needs, with recent grants ranging from $2,500 to $6,550.

Market Integration with Travel Partners

Planeterra connects community tourism enterprises directly with international travel partners, integrating authentic community experiences into tour itineraries seen by thousands of travellers. Current integration partners include G Adventures, Evaneos, G Touring, and Just You — bringing real market access to enterprises that would otherwise struggle to reach international visitors.

Integration operates through a structured multi-level system. Experiences can be included as part of a tour itinerary or offered as pre-sold optional activities. Integration levels range from Level 1 through Level 3, reflecting the depth of the partnership and the enterprise's capacity to receive travellers at scale.

Included Experiences
Community visits built directly into tour itineraries as a standard part of the trip.
Pre-sold Optional Experiences
Activities offered to travellers as bookable add-ons during their journey.
Multi-level Integration
A tiered system (Level 1–3) that matches integration depth to enterprise readiness and capacity.

Enterprises like Nyamirambo Women's Center in Rwanda have been integrated with G Adventures since 2016, offering women-led walking tours. DEŠA in Dubrovnik has been integrated since 2019, sharing traditional artisan workshops with travellers. Newer partners like Quichua Native Travel in Ecuador and Sharing Seeds in Nepal launched integrations in 2024 and 2025, demonstrating the program's ongoing growth.

Training & Capacity Building

Planeterra supports community tourism enterprises with training, mentorship, and tourism readiness assessments that prepare them to deliver high-quality visitor experiences. Support is tailored to each enterprise's needs — whether that means building operational capacity, strengthening financial management, developing marketing skills, or improving the visitor experience itself.

Planeterra's support covers market connections to help enterprises reach travel partners, equipment grants to improve infrastructure and visitor facilities, and direct training in tourism operations. Enterprises undergo tourism readiness reviews and receive ongoing guidance as they grow their capacity to welcome travellers.
